Sunday 7/8/18 - Greg White
Psalms 119:45 (NKJV)
And I will walk at liberty, for I seek Your precepts.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (ESV)
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Freedom is a biblical concept, provided by Christ at great cost…
WHEN WE COME TO JESUS WE FIND FREEDOM.
HOW DO I KNOW I AM FREE?
1. I KNOW I AM FREE WHEN I FEEL THE RELEASE OF THE WEIGHT OF SIN
I remember when my burdens rolled away
The problem is we cast aside the burden
of sin and we go back to pick it up...
we have this tendency to slip, to fall...
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
And all the kings horses and all the kings men,
couldn't put Humpty together again.
When I was young I was concerned for Humpty Dumpty,
No one could help him...
No one could fix him....
The story becomes clear when we realize he chose to be on the wall.
Eggs should know better than to sit in high places
He CHOSE to put himself in that predicament.
What was he thinking?
The reason we fall into the slavery of sin is the same...
God has granted us freedom; We choose
either to live in freedom or go back into sin.
Colossians 1:13-14 (ESV)
God... delivered us from the domain of
darkness and transferred us to the kingdom
of his beloved Son,
in whom we have redemption the
forgiveness of sins.
In Christ there is Freedom from THAT which
tries to steal away our peace…
His forgiveness has brought Freedom from a
past that springs up to pull us down…
He Took My Sins Away - Margaret J. Harris
The load of sin was more than I could bear,
He took them all away,
and now on Him I roll my every care,
he took my sins away.
Has He taken your sins away?
Do you feel free from the weight of sin?
2. I KNOW I AM FREE WHEN I BEAR THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY LIFE
Elbert Hubbard, "Responsibility is the price of freedom."
WHEN WE ARE FREE, WE BEAR RESPONSIBILITY
Freud observed, Most people do not really want freedom,
because freedom involvesresponsibility,
and most people are frightened of responsibility.
Choosing to serve God is a choice.
Choice is about responsibility.
"Freedom is a two-sided coin; on one side is
the liberty to make a decision, on the other
is responsibility." - Charley Reese
3. I KNOW I AM FREE WHEN I CONTROL MY THOUGHTS
INSTEAD OF MY THOUGHTS CONTROLLING ME
Romans 12:2 (ESV)
Do not be conformed to this world BUT BE
TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWAL OF YOUR
MIND, that by testing you may discern what
is the will of God, what is good and
acceptable and perfect.
When you put your energy into a good
thought you take away energy from the bad thought…
Colossians 3:2 (ESV)
Set your minds on things that are above,
not on things that are on earth.
Many people today are like the Zoad in a
poem by “Dr. Seuss"
The battle is in your thought life…
Keep your thoughts upon the Lord…
Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)
You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
Romans 8:6 (ESV)
For to set the mind on the flesh is death,
but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.
4. I KNOW I AM FREE WHEN I CAN STEP INTO MY FEAR
What is it that brings fear or dread in your life?
I want us to take our fears and bring them to The Lord.
Geo Muller, “The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith.
The beginning of faith is the end of anxiety."
Our fears have tendencies to cause us to
hide in our COMFORT ZONE!
Deuteronomy 31:8 (NKJV)
And the Lord, He is the one who goes before you.
He will be with you, He will not leave you nor
forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.
Harry Emerson Fosdick (1878-1969) put it this way...
Fear makes useless,
Faith makes us Useful-
Romans 8:15 (NKJV)
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear,
but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out,
I’m no longer a slave to fear.
I AM A CHILD OF GOD…
Freedom is a Choice!
Freedom is a Choice…
Now is the time to come to Jesus for freedom!
John 8: 36 (NKJV)
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be FREE indeed.
Do you want to be free?
John 1:12 (ESV)
But to all who did RECEIVE him, who BELIEVED in his name,
he gave the right to become children of God…
When we step out of our comfort zones we
step into fear – keep climbing –
we step into Faith (Adventure Zone).
